Zelda64
Walkthrough
After
the opening cinema, Link wakes up in his bed to
see a fairy in front of him. The fairy explains
that her name is Navi, and that you are to see
the great Deku Tree. You head out of your house
to the start of the latest Zelda game, The Legend
of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The Deku Tree Chronicles Part 1 The first thing to do is head up
to the obstacle course in southwestern kokiri
forest. Crawl into the hole at the back of the
course and avoid the boulder, the kokiri sword is
in a chest at the end. After you exit the
obstacle course you need to collect enough money
to buy the shield from the store. The best way to
get money is to steal all of it from your
neighbors. The Twin's house has a regenerating 6
rupees and Mido's house has 11 rupees. After
collecting enough rupees, head over to the
store(it has a red roof)and buy the deku shield.
Equip your sword and shield and head over to the
Deku tree, he is in a large meadow on the map.
After talking to him and getting him to open his
mouth, go inside and get ready to face the first
dungeon in the game: "Inside the Great Deku
Tree"
|

The Deku Tree ChroniclesInside the Great Deku Tree When you first enter the Deku
Tree, you will notice a latter. Go up the ladder
and head along the path, using the auto-jump. You
will find a chest halfway to the end, open it to
find the map. You can now see all the rooms in
the dungeon. Head along the path some more until
you find a door. Enter the room using A and
defeat the Deku Scrub using your shield to knock
back his nut attack at him. Run up to him, and
he'll open the door and tell you a clue in the
game. Go in the next room and jump across the
stone to the other side. Open the chest to find
the slingshot, which can fire deku seeds at a far
range. To get out, shoot the ladder on the wall
obove the doorway to make it fall, then you can
climb up. After getting back into th main
hallway, head back to where you found the map.
When navi turns yellow, use Z-targeting to lock
onto the skullwalltulas on the vine. Then use
your slingshot to fire a deku seed at him.
Continue until there are no more skullwalltulas
left. You can now climb the vine safely. When you
reach the next level run around the path until
you find a door(ignore the big skulltulas). Go
inside and hit the switch on the floor. It will
make the stones rise, and letting you cross to
the other side. Jump across the pillars and open
the chest to find the compass. Exit the room by
using the deku sticks to carry fire from one
lantern to the other. After getting back in the
main room, kill one of the big skulltulas by
waiting until it turns around and then doing a
jump attack. After killing it, try to aim
yourself to jump down and hit the exact center of
the webbing below. If you are successful, the
webbing will break and you will fall into a
subterranean level. After you fall to the bottom
head over to the torch that is closest to the
ground. Catch a deku stick on fire and run over
to the other platform, lighting the web on fire.
After burning the web, you can now access the
door and go into the next room. When you get in
the next room, you will find another deku scrub
waiting for you. Bounce back his attack again to
beat him. After you go up to him, you will find
out about other deku scrubs up ahead in the
dungeon. After he leaves, use your slingshot to
shoot the eye above the door. In the next room,
you will see a pool of water and a revolving
spiked log. Jump in the water and swim over to
the left side of the log. Dive down to the switch
under the log. It will lower the water level,
allowing the platform to go under the log safely.
Get back to the shore and jump onto the platform.
You make it under safely, then jump off onto the
other side of the pool. Kill the big skulltula
and push the block over to the door. Climb onto
the block and jump in the doorway. In the next
room you will see 3 Gohma larvae on the ceiling.
Go around the center of the room and they
wont harm you. Get some fire from the torch
and bring it over to the webbing in one
passageway (avoiding the middle of the room).
Crawl in the passageway to find yourself in the
basement room you started in. Push the block down
of the ledge to secure your way back up. Go over
to the torch and light up a deku stick jump back
across onto the block, then up to the ledge. Use
the fire to burn the webbing in the center. Go
down to the final level and shoot the deku scrubs
in the pattern their brother deku scrub told you.
The pattern is 231; hit the one in the middle,
then the one to the right, then the one to the
left. Chase down the 1st deku scrub and talk to
him. He will tell you a secret about Gohma that
will help out. The door will open to the boss
room, and you can go in. Once you enter, the door
will shut behind you. Look up at the ceiling to
catch a glimpse of the virus plaguing the Deku
tree, and get ready to fight the first boss
battle in the game. To learn how to beat Gohma
and all the other bosses head over to the boss
section. The Darunia Chronicles part one After beating Gohma, head out to talk to the Great Deku Tree one last time. He will tell you your mission: To go see princess Zelda. Exit kokiri forest through the now accesible door on the far end of the forest. On your way out of the forest, you'll meet Saria. She will tell you that she understands that you have to leave and gives you a parting gift...Your first Ocarina! (Thats right I said FIRST) You'll now be finally away from the kokiri forest and out into the world. Talk to a new friend, an owl named Kaepora Gaepora. He will tell you some somewhat valuable info, then leave. Follow the dirt path by the exit to the forest until you see a large castle wall. Head that way to get on with your quest. It probably will get dark before you get there, but don't worry...all that will be different will be a somewhat lack of light and SOME UNDEAD SKELETONS! But don't fret, the Skullchild is easy to beat, 2 hits will finish them off. An easier way to beat them is to just run past them, they're too slow to catch you. When morning comes, head into the castle to find a bustling market place. Talk to the red-headed girl by the entrance to the main castle and she will tell you that her father has not came out of the castle in a long time. Go down the path to the castle to go see princess Zelda. Once you go in head right back out, then in again. Malon(the girl from the market) will now be waiting for you. Interupt her song for a second to talk to her. She will ask you if you're going into the castle, and if you are to find her father. She will also give you a wierd egg, which in one day will hatch into a chicken in one days time. Climb up the vines beside Malon to get up onto a hill over looking the castle. Now jump down onto the other side of the gate. Now's the hard part, you have to get past the guards by staying out of their line of site. It may take some practice, but you'll get it in a little while. After getting past the first set of guards you will see a wall with an uneven surface. Climb up that wall and jump into the moat. Swim down the moat and get back up at a corner of the moat. Go to the guy sleeping and wake him up with your cucco. He will run off and you can move the crates now. Move them over to the moat and push them in a little area under one of the moats water sources. After stacking the second crate on the first, jump across to the hole where there is water coming out. Crawl in to get into the inner part of the castle. Do this at daytime because at night the guards won't let you pass. You now have to sneak past another set of guards, this will be a lot harder because the camera stays stationary. Make sure you stay out of the site if the guards, or you'll be thrown back to where you met Talon. The first ones are easy just go behind thier backs, just not too close. Get past the guard on the 3rd screen by climbing over the wooden lattice. On the final screens you have to be more careful than ever, make sure the guards don't get a glimse of you. Now you have reached the courtyard, and it's time to talk with Zelda. She will tell you that a man named Ganondorf is trying to find the entrance to the Sacred Realm, where the legendary Triforce is kept. She also tells you to go to Death mountain where you will find the 2nd sacred stone. She then gives you a letter and tells you to see her Handmaiden, Impa, before you leave. When you see Impa, she teaches you a song for your ocarina. The song "Zelda's Lulaby" is one of the most used songs in the game. Impa will then lead you out of the castle and tell you to stop in her home town, Kakariko Village to learn some new things. Head to kakariko and give the letter to the guard at the base of Death Mountain on the northern side of Kakariko. Give him the letter to open the gates and get up to Death Mountain. When going up the mountain, watch out for a new enemy, Tektites. These creatures will jump at you and try to hit you. The best way to beat them is to back off when they jump, then hit it with your sword. Go all the way up Death Mountain to Goron City. On your way up, you may notice a large boulder blocking someting, you'll have to worry about that later. In Goron City, go down to the bottom floor to a rock door with a rug in front of it. Stand on the rug and play Zelda's Lulaby. The door will open and you can enter Darunia's room. Inside you will see Darunia, but don't worry about talking to him yet. Grab a deku stick and catch it on fire. Run out and light all the torches on fire on the first level. Put away your stick and bring out another one. Light this one and run up the stairs to the next level. Then light the 2 torches to the right of you. Ok, that was the hard part, now take one final deku stick and run down the small pathway between the torches. Light the bomb flowers on fire and then RUN! The rocks will blow up and you can now enter the passage. It is actualy a warp the transports you to a section of the game near Kokiri Forest called The Lost Woods. You have to travel through by listening to Saria's Song, which is the song being played all through the lost woods. Here as the directions to get through the Lost Woods: From where you are go left, left, forward, left, right. Once you get to the end you will be in the sacred forest meadow. This a sacred which very few people have ever stepped foot on. You now have to fight a new enemy, the Wolfos. He can be defeated by waiting for him to attack, then do a backflip. After that do a jump attack and repeat this method again. The gate will open and you will be in a small maze. Now to get through go to your right and follow the path through the maze. You have to defeat the Mad Scrubs by reflecting thier shots with your shield, then run at them and attack them with your sword. Follow the path through and reach the other side of the maze. Now go up the stairs and fight 2 last Mad Scrubs. You will finally get to the meadow and get to see Saria again(after a lot of pestering from Navi). She will teach you Saria's Song, a tune that allows you to talk with her anytime. Ok, it's time to go back and see Darunia, head back to Goron city using anyway you want(the warp in the lost woods is recomended). Once your back go strait to see Darunia. He will tell you not to get involved in Goron affairs and ignore you. Play Saria's song for him to losen him up a little. He will do a hip dance and then give you would you need to start your next quest...the Goron's Bracelet. The Darunia Chronicles Dodongo's Cavern Head out after getting the goron bracelet from Darunia exit goron city, and then make the first right you see. There will be a sleeping goron and a BOMB FLOWER. Pick up the bomb flower and throw it down (now that you can) Presto! The huge boulder that was blocking the cave is now ‘unblocked’. (Oh, if you want to get that precious heart piece early, do a back flip off of the bomb flower ledge and angle it so that you will fall on the overhang. Little health will be lost, and you will gain it back from the heart piece.)
Now, enter the dungeon. Hmmm...a stone wall will be blocking your only way in...time to quit i guess.....NOT! You should notice BOMB FLOWERS around the room, simply pick one up, and then throw it against the odd colored wall. This will destroy it, and the cut scene will play introducing Link to the Dodongo’s Cavern. Ooooooh, scary huh?
Note: This dungeon is drastically different from the Deku tree, new hazards (such as lava) and new enemies (which ill get into) lurk in here. Head straight forward and you should see a center platform with a BEAMOS (new enemy). Head to the left of the beamos, and there should be even more sinking and rising platforms. Just jump across and head over to the BOMB FLOWER. Pick it up and blow open the odd colored wall. Then pick up another bomb flower and launch it at the beamos on this side. Bombs are the ONLY way to kill a beamos so take note of this.
There will be a chest....a HA!! The MAP is in here. Next, head to the other side. There will be yet another odd colored wall and yet another beamos. Destroy the wall and beamos the same way you did on the other side.
In this new room, you encounter a winding corridor, you run through but baby dodongo’s will try to hinder your progress, simply ignore them and then climb up that small ledge. Next you will see a floor switch, problem is, once you get off, the bars cover the door again. Hmmm....so what you do, is get behind of of the ARMOS (new enemy) and push it onto the switch. NOTE: Not all Armos are like this. Most...and i mean MOST of them will attack you. Just beware. Now that the armos is on the switch, go thru the door and onto the hexagon platforms. Here you will fight new enemies called LIZAFOS. There are 2. Only one will attack at a time so take your time fighting them. Equip the HYLIAN shield (if you have it) so that if they attack, you can cover right away. Each lizafos will take 6 hits to their death, but will retreat after 3 have been made. Kill them (there is little difficulty) and enter the newly unlocked door. (By the way, if the lizafos dealt moderate damage to you, there are pots on the far hexagon, smash them to reveal hearts.
Now through this door, you will be in a room with larger, regular sized dodongos. These are a little harder than the lizafos, so watch out. First off, they explode when they die, as will all dodongos so watch out. Their explosions are much larger than baby dodongos. To kill them, you must make them breath fire your way, but before then, sidestep, and swipe their tail. There are 3 dodongos in there.
You, after killing all 3, notice a barred door. (Yes, another one) There are a couple of unlit torches, and one lit one. Take out a deku stick, and light the other torches (as you did in the Deku Tree) Back in the hallway, the switch on the ledge you couldnt reach is there. Step on it, and the bars over the other door will go up. The room you encounter a large obelisk surrounded by BOMB FLOWERS, and one by an odd colored door. Take that bomb flower and throw in in front of the little gap of bomb flowers to break the support of the obelisk, making a useful, yet crude stairway to the upper level. Before climbing, break the odd colored wall and confront the LIVE ARMOS!!! To defeat it, throw a deku nut to stun it once you slash it once to bring it to life. Then jump attack it while it’s stunned. Now watch out! It will bounce around the room and after 4 seconds, explode! Grab the compass once you’re done. Now climb up the ‘staircase’. (Gold skulltula alert!!!!! On the rough wall next to the regular skullwalltula!)
The Second Floor
The room at the top of the stairs leads to another room full of armos. All but one of them cannot be revived. There is a ladder, and the armos in front of the ladder is the ONLY one that cant be revived. Climb up the ladder, and step on the switch to unbar the door.
The fire keese in this room are a pain, if you don’t want to risk losing your deku shield, equip your hylian shield and if one flies towards you, just duck and cover! Run across the bridge and enter the room on the other side.
The razor sharp traps in this room are motion activated so watch out. If you want to play it safe, jump off the ledge and fall in between two traps where they cannot hurt your. Now, another trap should be moving in front of you. Moving very fast to the left, but slowly to the right. Just run past it when it is moving slowly back to the right. Now you should see a crescent block and a ladder above it. If you have moderate damage, pull the block out and get the secret heart behind it. Now, stand on top of the crescent block and jump to the nearby ledge. This has a BOMB FLOWER and a small chest (Ruppees are in the chest).
This next part is a little tricky. The odd colored wall above the ladder halts your progress, but simply throwing the bomb flower all the way down wont destroy the wall. Instead, wait until the bomb flower is about to explode and then toss it towards the wall. This will destroy it. Your compass will show a treasure chest in this room, but you will be coming back here, so don’t worry.
In this next room, flames cover the central platform that you need to jump on to cross. Shoot the eye switch to lower the flames and jump across. There will be about 3 more baby dodongos in this corridor. Dispose of them if you wish, but I find it better to run straight for the door.
Now you will notice a bunch of square platforms...you fight another pair of Lizafos. Defeat them the same way you did on the first floor, but take caution because the platforms are much smaller than the hexagons in the previous fight. (If you need hearts, there is a long, yet narrow walkway leading to 2 hearts) Enter the new unbarred room to....a room with not only one, but two flaming pillars. The first release is easy, just shoot the eye switch, but the second one is a little more tricky. There is a switch to the left of the first pillar, shoot that one with your sling shot too, and you are home free.
Now, that you are back in the razor trap room, you can access the chest. Do that to get the all powerful BOMB BAG. Now you are in the main room again, this time, on the other side. Step on the switch to make one of the pillars (from below) rise to the level you are on. (You will probably never use this, but what the hell?) Take care of the fire keese in your area and then head over to the bridge to the right. You notice that it has two drop off points. You also notice that there is a huge dodongo head made of blue stone below you, with 2 black eyes. So what you do, is stand at the very edge of the drop off, and lay a bomb down (the 2 drop offs are above the eyes). The bomb blast will make the color of the eye red, instead of black. Do this on the other drop off, and then jump down after the cut scene to enter the door in the mouth of the fake dodongo.
This next part is a bit weird, but able to do. Take care of the fire keese in this room and then jump up on the lower ledge. Take this winding corridor to a new room, with more fire keese. Dispose of them and then make your way around the snaky paths and then climb up the crescent blocks and then up the other one so that you can see two pots. One of them has a FAIRY. Catch it in a bottle (If you have one at this point). Now.....go the only way you can and you will be in the room, with the block at your level. Push it down and then push it directly into the hole. Now...go thru the unlocked door and enter the room. An odd colored floor lies in the very center.
BOMB IT!
But if you are low on bombs, get the chest for a little bit of a refill on bombs. Jump down to fight the one of the easiest boss in the game...
The Infernal Dinosaur: King Dodongo The Ruto Chronicles part one After beating King Dodongo go down Death Mountain and through Kakariko. After getting back to Hyrule field, head left through the water until you see an opening in the rock wall. Head through there, you will be in Zora’s river. Use a bomb to blow up the rocks and get through the gates. Then use the chicken to glide to the opposite side of the bank and follow the path through Zora’s River, it will be pretty easy. When you get to the end, stand on a small square in front of the waterfall and play Zelda’s Lullaby. It will make the falls slowdown. After slowing down the falls go inside Zora’s Domain. Head up to the top of Zora’s Domain where the king is. You will find out that Princess Ruto is missing. Head left to meet with a zora who asks you to play a game. You have to dive down off the waterfall and collect all the Rupees. When you return the Zora will give you the Silver Scale, which allows you to dive deeper in the water. After you have gotten the scale, dive into the main water area of Zora's domain. There should be a small tunnel just opposite of the waterfall. Go through it and come out in Lake Hylia. Grab the bottle near you (by swimming through it) and go back through the small hole. Show the note to King Zora. He will then let you behind his seat to the Zora Fountain. Use a bottle to catch a fish on the lower level (by the circle of stones and torch) and offer it to Jabu Jabu to make him open his mouth. The Ruto Chronicles In the Belly of Jabu Jabu When you enter you will see 2 octorocks in a pool of water. Kill or dodge the two octoroks and hit the switch with the slingshot. Go through the door. In this room, go through the door on the opposite side of the room. When Ruto jumps into the vortex, jump in after her. Keep pestering her until she gets you to carry her. Go through the door on that platform. Set Ruto down and kill the stingers in the pool of water. Pick her back up and jump in the pool (when the water is low) and throw her on the opposite bank. Raise the water level by stepping on the switch. Climb out of the pool and pick Ruto back up. Hit the switch to open the door and go through it. TIP: You can use Ruto as a throwing weapon! Kill the octorok and board the platform when it reaches you. Ride it to the top and jump on the platform. Go the way you went before you met Ruto. This time, do not fall in a vortex. Make your way to the door on the other side of the room. Go right and right again. Step on the switch (with Ruto on your back) and go through the door. Kill the stingers to get the boomerang. Go left and then forward until you see another switch. Set Ruto on it and go in the room (she will be waiting when you come out). Use the boomerang to attack the weak point of the parasitic tentacle and open the treasure chest to get the map. Pick up Ruto and then go left. Go through the door and kill all of the shaboms in the time allotted. Open the treasure chest to get the compass. Go left, straight and then left again. Go through the door. Put Ruto down again and kill this tentacke. Pick her back up and go out through the door. Go right twice and then through the door. Kill this tentacle and all of the biri in the room and then leave. Go back to the room with the vortexes (straight ahead). With princess Ruto, go through the vortex where the big tentacke used to be. Go through the door on this platform. Throw Ruto on the platform and fight the bigocto. Jump on the platform. Go through the door. Stun the red platforms with the boomerang and jump to the door. Jump across the small pit to the lone platform and ride it down. Pick up a box and set it on the switch. Climb the wall and hit the hanging switch with your boomerang. Go through the opened door to fight Barinade. The Forest Chronicles Part 1 After the battle wit Barinade, collect the heart container and step into the blue light with Princess Ruto. She really looks scary in the light. Well... you'll be transported out to Zora's Fountain and Ruto will give you Zora's Sapphire, the third and final spiritual stone! It's also her "most precious possession" given by her mother. We have to three
spiritual stones! Head to the Temple of Time to open the door of time.
As you approach the drawbridge to Hyrule Town Market, you will see a cinema of Zelda, escaping Gannondorf on horseback. She throws something into the water. After the Gannondorf encounter, dive into the water to get... The Ocarina of Time! Great, now go to the temple of time. It's on the right of the Happy Mask Shop. [Before going there, it's a good idea to find as much stuff as possible in the past: Gold skulltulas, pieces of heart, etc. You won't be able to go back to the past for a while...]
Silence please, this is a sacred moment. Zelda will teach you the song of time telepathically. Now stand in front of the altar and play...the song of time. The three spiritual stone will spin around and the door will open. Enter to get the master sword. I'm too lazy to type out the terrific cinema that is presented to you now. You won't notice it but after the Gannondorf thing, seven years will have passed.
